Research demonstrates that 80% of diabetes complications are preventable through proper nutrition and lifestyle management. However, without accessible, culturally relevant dietary guidance, many Ghanaian diabetics unknowingly make food choices that worsen their condition. A study across sub-Saharan Africa found that dietary non-adherence was the primary factor in uncontrolled diabetes, with patients reporting they “didn’t know which local foods were safe to eat” as the main barrier. This knowledge gap directly contributes to Ghana’s rising rates of diabetes-related hospitalizations and complications.
